I heard about 18 month lifespan for it. Has Apple resolved this this problem or all new time capsules die after year and a half?

My first-gen 500Gb model lasted two years before the PSU died. It's a known defect and it was replaced free of charge with a sexy new dual-band model. I believe that they have improved the PSU for the current models.

I've had mine for about 20 months. No problems. My parents went through 2 Linksys between those 20 months :) It has been having issues with back ups but accessing network has been great.
