Question about
I have two questions for those of you actively using the fitbit:
1) When you exercise do you put it in "activity" mode? Why do you (or don't you)?
I've just started up the C25K program and I'm indecisive about how important that step is. The first day I did not do it and the second day I did.
2) I've noticed that if I do not sync the fitbit on a daily basis that the markers for when I begin sleep/end sleep are lost. Does that also happen to you? I'm trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong.
Basically, I was away from the hub for a week and still entered my sleep each day. When I got home and synced it was all gone (grrr). Yesterday, at some point, I accidentally started the sleep/activity mode and didn't notice until it was bedtime. Today, when I woke up an synced, my sleep information was there but the accidental entry was nowhere to be found.
This seems counter intuitive to me. I don't want to have to take the hub with me when I travel if I don't have to. Thoughts?

1. No. I add activities later on the website. I didn't even actually know that holding the button put it into "activity" mode until very recently... I thought that was only for sleep. Maybe I'll try it to get better results for my activities?
2. No, even when I don't sync for over a week, it remembers my sleep patterns exactly. Are you putting it into sleep mode (a.k.a activity mode) when you go to bed?
Remember, you can always go back and fix your sleep times after the fact!

After discussing this with a few people and reading up on the fitbit.com forums, it seems that the syncing issue is related to the Mac software.
I recently ran into an issue where it simply wouldn't sync at all. Stopping the process and letting it restart didn't help anymore than restarting the system, etc, helped. I dug around and found the following steps to completely remove and install the app which fixed the issue for me:
--
1) copy "http://cache.fitbit.com/uploader/uninstall-fitbit-mac-1.0" in your browser
2) (uninstall-fitbit-mac-1.0) will download
3) put (uninstall-fitbit-mac-1.0) on your desktop
4) In the Terminal window, type "sudo bash Desktop/uninstall-fitbit-mac-1.0"
5) Install the latest software:

I never use the activity mode. I do mostly running, and that is very easy to see on the activity log. I don't really think that it makes much difference. The main point would be markers on the log to remind you to manually input other activities.
As to the losing sleep markers, I haven't noticed that. I usually don't take the fitbit when I travel. I have enough crap to keep track of, that would be just one more. I can do without the data for a few days.
