Question about
I have this HD box and I'm not getting the audio that I should be getting.
I had a Comcast tech over the other day and he had to get a remote out of his truck (regular remote cannot access this setting) and he changed an audio setting from Dynamic to Fixed and it made a world of difference. It seems that setting has gone back to what it was before and I need to know how to get back into my box and change that setting again.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Go to the Scientific Atlanta site and you can get the full product manual for the STB/DVR. There might be something in there.

Try turning the box off, then hold down the guide and info button at the same time. I used to install these boxes a few yrs ago when I did home theater installations, so Im not 100% sure of the button combo, but if that doesnt work, try 2 other buttons at the same time. Make sure the box is turned off tho when you try it

If your cable box manufacturer is motorola you will need someone else to help you. In my area, we were formerly time warner so even though I work for Comcast. my time working has been all Scientific Atlanta equipment.
start by making sure the cable box and tv are off
second connect the hdmi cable to the tv and the cable box
then push the menu button on the remote 2 times to get to the system menu.
you can use the navigation circle to scroll up or down the menu untill you find
Audio:Digital Out
change the setting by using the right pointing navigation circle button and up or down to select
that should give you hdmi video with audio.
the settings Dethblooms is talking about is for adjusting the component video out settings you dont need to worry about those settings they have no effect on audio.
if after adjusting this setting you still have no audio here are some other suggestions
check the type of hdmi plug the tv is connected to the cable box through. some tv's use input 1 as a hybrid connection, ie its truly a dvi input with an hdmi adapter for the plug (useful if you want hdmi quality but want the audio only through the receiver. this helps avoid echo between the tv speakers and the receiver.
its also possible that the cable box has a bad hdmi port. could be anything from the hdmi decoder or communication issues between the tv and cable box to a bad pin on the cable box. dont hesitate to go to your local cable store and ask for a replacement box. keep in mind that in areas that carry scientific atlantic boxes both hdmi and non hdmi boxes exist be sure to call ahead to see if the cable store has them.
P.S. if you have a scientific atlanta box and you have Comcast, I would think you live somewhere in minnesota.
