Question about
I decided to let windows backup my data, now I cannot access the data that was stored nor wipe or reformat the drive
I followed the prompt to back up my data from the menu that appears when removable memory is plugged in, but after the backup, windows said it had failed. Now I have a mostly-full drive and am unable to delete the backup data with windows' or WD's included software. Any suggestions?
try to reboot in safe mode and first try a system restore, if that's a no go do a system recovery. if neither are accessible you may have to do a clean install.
