Droid Charge, Thunderbolt, or Droid X2. They are the "newest" Verizon phones at the moment. The Droid Bionic is coming out "soon" and that's going to be Verizon's flagship LTE + Dual Core smartphone. Although, at this point, I would honestly consider waiting a couple of months until September to see what Apple does with the iPhone 5. Of course though, if you are set on Android, then those 4 phones are going to be your best bets at the moment.

If you really want the state of the art phone, wait for the Droid Bionic. Otherwise, the other three will do you well also.

I'm in a similar position: my 2 years isn't up on the original Droid for another six months, which is good and bad. If I had to switch now, I'd go with the Thunderbolt. My brother got one at the same time his wife went with the iPhone 4, and she's been regretting her choice ever since. My brief experience with it last month left me drooling.

As it is, I'm glad I have a few more months to go, despite the sluggishness of my Droid.

Bionic's kinda dead on the vine. It disappeared with no clue when it will be releasing because Moto delayed it without an ETA. It /could/ be a great phone, but a phone that doesn't exist is tough to gauge.

X2 (just got one) is quite good. Of the 4.3" screen models, it's my favorite. Feels great in the hand, large (obviously, due to the screen) but nice and thin. Fast, responsive, great screen. Only thing it's missing is "4G".

I chose the X2 over the Thunderbolt because I liked the form factor, and the X2's screen has a higher pixel density. I like that the Thunderbolt has "4G" but it's considerably thicker and heavier, and has less punch when it comes to the processor. Screen quality is great, but it's not as dense as the X2.

On the with-a-keyboard front, I've owned both the Droid 1 and 2, and with the 3 coming out shortly, I expect it to be well made. I can say that the build quality on the 1 and 2 was quite high, and that they may just the right changes in the hardware on 2, and would anticipate a similar turn with the Droid 3. The specs look great, but having not used one, I can't give an honest full opinion. If you like the physical keyboards, the Droid 3 will likely be a very solid option.

I may sound a bit like a Moto-shill, but really I just these phones. I've historically been a huge HTC fan, but the Incredible doesn't excite me, and the Thunderbolt almost won me over... just that screen on the X2 pushed me that direction.

Hope you find this analysis helpful, since I just had to go through the same choices you're making. :)

I've had my Droid for almost two years now. I thought about the Bionic, though I agree its technology is probably on the back side of the bell curve due to the long delay in bringing it to market. I think I'll wait and see if the fabled Droid Prime is an actual product before I upgrade. Another factor for me is the lack of LTE in Virginia.
