Question about
I am looking to get a DSLR for the wife for Christmas and not being much of a camera buff would like some help on it.
Looking in the $700-900 range and something entry-level and user-friendly. I really like the D90, but would like some outside input before I pull the trigger and get one. Anything else in that field that would be a good alternative or even better?

I got the Nikon D3100, i think it is very user friendly. The guide mode is a nice feature. And you would have money left over for extra lenses :)

Is it her first DSLR?
I'd go for the Nikon D3100 -- it's ~$600 and has even better performance than the D90. It's also smaller and lighter.
