Worth noting that the Playbook won't "run" all Android apps.

A great many current Android apps will run in the Playbook's Android Player. However, the app's developer must first register with RIM to get unique security keys and access to App World. The developer must then perform a conversion of their compiled .APK (Android app) file to a .BAR (Playbook Android app). In many cases, this is an easy process and will take the developer only a few moments. Many Android apps have been converted to .BAR files by third parties for testing, and a great many of those work flawlessly (or with very minor issues) in the 2.0 beta that's out right now.

There are many exceptions to this, unfortunately. Some Android apps access specific APIs or hardware that the Playbook can't support currently. In those cases, the developers will have to decide how much re-coding would be required and whether the effort would be worthwhile.

RIM has signed a distribution agreement with Android distributor Handster, and dozens of Handster apps are now available in App World to Playbook users running the 2.0 beta. it's likely that many more will be available by the time the 2.0 update is released to the public.

Hope this helps.

I use a playbook now and I really like it. Its the perfect size so its great for reading e-books. its more comfortable in one hand than an iPad, and its more powerfull and usefull than a kindle fire. If your serious about getting one it might be a better idea to get one now before the OS2 comes out because they might increase the price again. Right now they are pretty cheap, almost half the price of an iPad

I would personally recommend holding off until OS 2.0 unless you find an irresistible deal. There has been talk of hardware rev. 2.0 (with faster processors and such) and speaking as someone who purchased at launch there is no guarantee software updates are going to arrive when RIM promises (still waiting for launch window email ).

Either way I don't think the playbook has gotten a fair nod; while apps aren't quite there, the browser is competent and the entire OS is fast and reliable. Gestures are surely the best way to interact with a tablet, in my opinion. Good luck : )
