How to upgrade the HD without having the fan at full speed?

I have tried using same brand HD (mine is Seagate).

This has to do with special firmware on the hard drive that apple uses to detect the temp of the hard drive. You might try this application: www.hddfancontrol.com/

Could be running the fan at full speed to cool down the cpu, not hard drive. the CPUs thermal grease could be dried out causing insufficient heat dessipation
