How is Windows performance when using Bootcamp?

I'm thinking of setting up a Bootcamp partition to use with Steam since some of my games are not OSX compatible. Most of the stuff I play is lower resource indie stuff so I wont be looking for high end graphics, just a more compatible platform my steam library. If you've done this what have been your results with using this method?

I have a mid-2009 Macbook, and the Bootcamp experience hasn't been "stellar". Fans run at full speed all the time, and the hard drive spins at full speed all the time. Seems like the power management is faulty.

Then there's the keyboard. There's only one control key, which drives me nuts sometimes, and there are two Windows keys, which drives me batty all the friggin' time.

Other than that, it's OK.

I ran Bootcamp on my 2006 MBP running Snow Leopard, with 2 GB of RAM. All ports and functions worked, and some simple keyboard mapping solved the Windows key issues. I found it ran nicely, and had no problems running AutoCad, which was the reason I wanted to run Windows on the machine. I would definitely try it, if you have a copy of Windows to install handy.

No negative comments here. I like the trackpad, how it works under windows.

I ran Bootcamp and tried Parallels also on a Core 2 duo MacBook Pro. It wasn't a great experience. I had the max amout of RAM (4gb) in that system, and I ran Windows Vista. Your experience should be better given you are using Windows 7 and have, I assume, a solid state drive. On my MacBook Pro, Windows was surprisingly slow, and always heated the system to the point that all the cooling fans were running full speed. The system got incredibly hot to the touch. Battery life suffered considerably. Hope you have a better experience.

When I use BootCamp I find that all ports run like they're in a PC. It boots and if you didn't stare at the MacBook logo you'd think your on any other fine quality high speed PC. Everything looks, feels and acts just as if your running a PC. My 13" Air with standard 4GB RAM and 256GB SSD never shows any speed problems.
