Question about

How is the build quality?

There seems to be an issue with the cable, but other than that how would they most likely break? The connection between the cups and the head piece is often a soft spot. Thoughts?

The build quality on the QuietComfort line is much higher than that of the standard line, but Bose has always gotten an undeserved free pass by most people. I think their hardware and design is lacking, and the quality is not nearly as high as the astronomical prices would suggest.

I have to agree with what Brett said. I was one of the first to post a review of these when I first bought them back in '09, but I no longer have the QC15 headphones because they completely failed on me not long after the warrantee ran out. After owning them for 13 months, the left ear started cutting in and out. I could usually give it a good tap, and it would start working again, but after a month, it completely died. The right side gave out about a month after that. So, for $300, I had a set of headphones that didn't even last a year and a half. Quite disappointing.
