That link was an interesting read.

The multitasking systems seem the same to me except that a lot of people running Android don't know that they can hold down the home button to get a list of running apps whereas Apple made it abundantly clear that you just doubleclick the home button to get a list of running apps. Also, Android doesn't really limit which services are used in the background (pointed out by Gruber in the article) but Apple decided to only give developers 7 services (most of what they wanted anyway).

Problem with using background services is how would you control the number of apps running those services. For instance if there are 10 apps all requesting for location service and each app would run it's own service in the background, then iPhone would start acting like an android slow and sluggish after few installations.

So I do not think these will be user defined services like on android, but they would be pointer services, like if an application needs location data it will register few things with the location service on phone.

Thus when the location changes the action will not be taken on iPhone but on the server, which in turn could use push notifications to alert the user of any changes that are desired by the user.

The background streaming audio will solely be handled by iPod app, every app will have to supply it the location URL, with specific XML based information that could be displayed on the iPod interface.

This kind of multitasking would make more sense rather than like what google is using on android phones because seriously android background services is a fail, takes up too much processing and battery.

You have to notice one thing that apple said different from google.

Google android allows users to make background services.

While apple said

It will allow developers to use 7 unique background serves. Thus I think you don't really write any code to use these background services but just call them and let system handle the backgrounding.

Android has serious drawback due to these open service system because it does load up memory and time after time I do have to use task killer to free memory as apple clearly stated there won't be any task killer, I do not think multitasking on iPhone is anything like android.h
