Question about
How do I upload photos that were imported into iPhoto to websites without using the iPhoto app?
I always heard that iPhoto was a bit of a control freak when it came to photo management and I can see why it gained this reputation. I'm trying to upload a photo to 500px.com, not Facebook or any of the supported site iPhoto uploads to, using their normal upload tool on their site. I try to navigate to my iPhoto library through the file browser, but I can't open it because it's grayed out.
One workaround: I did a search for the image file I was looking for and can copy/paste it to my desktop to upload, but that's a pain in the ass.
Any suggestions on how to get access to my iPhoto library OUTSIDE of iPhoto? Should I just ditch it for Picasa?

Yea I think you're stuck dragging what pics you want out of iphoto and onto the desktop or whatever folder you want to use and uploading from there. If you only deal with the occasional export or upload, then it's an easy work around, but otherwise you should probably consider another program like you mentioned.

You are stuck with exporting/dragging the photos from iPhoto onto your desktop/another location, then uploading like normal.
Sorry.

There may be a way to do this going forward but it requires you to first export all your photos that you've previously imported and then delete your existing iPhoto library.
1. Then arrange the exported photos however you like in the filesystem.
2. Next, go to iPhoto Preferences and in the Advanced tab, unselect "copy to iPhoto libraries folder."
3. Re-import your photos. Make sure you unselect "copy to iPhoto libraries" option if there is one.
I think setting it up this way will let you do what you wanted. Not 100% sure cause I no longer use iPhoto (I'm an Aperture user).
