How do I transfer contacts from my iPad to my new MacBook Pro?

I got a new MacBook Pro and I didn't back up the calendar and the address book from the old one, now they are on my iPad but I think if I sync it then it might wipe out the data on the iPad and sync the empty address book on the Mac.

I'm 97% sure about this: When you plug in your iPad go to the info tab. There should be an option to sync your address book contacts. The only way it's going to overwrite what you already have is if you check the box at the very bottom that says something like "Overwrite information already on this device" and then gives you some checkboxes for what you can overwrite.

As long as you don't choose that, and you just sync it with address book, you *should* be fine. I know it's scary to try something and risk losing all of your contacts.

You can also try using a Goolge Contacts account as an intermediary. You can sync your iPad contacts to the Google account, then sync your Mac Book Pro via iTunes to your Goolge Contacts. Not only do you stay synced, but you also have access to contacts when you don't have your computer or iPad with you.
