How poor is the wifi reception? It seems odd that jailbreaking would somehow inhibit your signal strength. Are you having connectivity issues?
If so, you best bet is to reset the network settings on your iPhone.
Basically: Settings → General → Reset → Reset Network Settings
The phone will reboot (and the only settings that will be lost will be wifi networks and passwords. Once the phone has rebooted, try connecting to your preferred wifi network again.
