Chrome OS is google's version of Chromium OS with proprietary code added in. You cannot get a copy of Chrome OS without purchasing a Chromebook. You can however get your own copy of Chromium OS which is the open source project Chrome OS is built ontop of. Instead of building Chromium OS yourself, you can try Hexxeh's pre-built versions. I'd recommend starting here: chromeos.hexxeh.net/lime.php
