How can I stop an endless bootup screen?

I had shut off my Droid Incredible, and when turning it back on, I found it was stuck in an odd repeating bootup screen. It was the same bootup animation (www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpPXVng_gKg), but it would restart itself at "HTC: Quietly Brilliant" and go through the animation. Taking the battery out did nothing, and, in the end, I had to do a hard reset.

The phone was never rooted, and no pirated software was put on there, so I'm clueless as to why it's happened. I've talked to my other friends, and they all ended up doing the same thing I did.

Was there a way to fix this problem without resetting and subsequently losing my data? Does HTC or Verizon have a solution for this?

You are installing programs on your phone... Not all programs play nice with each other. You have HTC Sense if you are still on a stock ROM and have alot of programs that you most likely never use and can cause issue with others... Also some developers just write bad apps. I try to install one app at a time run it for a few day before install anything else. I also try to go back and remove old apps I no longer use... I recommond you use cloud based storage for all your important info on your phone. I use Google Contacts/GMail/Google Voice. If my phone breaks I get a new one and never loose a single Voice Mail/Text/EMail/Contact and have them synced back on my new phone in 5min.
