How can I connect two external monitors to a 17in Macbook Pro?
My desk setup currently consists of my Macbook Pro with a 24in ASUS VE245 plugged
into my DVI-out port in via DisplayPort. I would absolutely love to be able to hook up another 24in monitor.
Does your MBP 17" have an actual DVI port or is it mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt?

Ah sorry, I meant DIsplayPort. Updated my original post to reflect that.
It looks like a USB to DVI adapter from Diamond is your best bet according to Danny Sullivan in this article: daggle.com/macbook-pro-multimonitor-4-monitors-at-... . That solution is around $70 total from Amazon.
Dual link dvi ports DO NOT support 2 monitors, they only support higher resolutions for larger monitors.
On my old work desktop PC, I had an adapter which connected to one dvi port but supported two monitors.
My mistake, it must have been the video card that supported multiple monitors through the single dvi port. I had wrongly assumed it was because of dual link dvi.
While not applicable to your situation, newer MacBook Pros equipped with Thunderbolt and with discrete graphics (not the integrated Intel graphics) can support up to two external Thunderbolt displays.
