How are you handling the battery life?

So far I'm loving pretty much everything about this phone, with the one major exception of the battery life. I'm doing just about everything I can to manage it (3G mode, wifi/bluetooth/GPS turned off) but it still seems to chew through the battery in roughly half the time that my iPhone 4 that I'm coming from does with roughly the same amount of usage.

I'd estimate that I'm probably getting between 12-15 hours of my average use on a full charge. I've tried to find an extended battery, but they seem to be sold out everywhere.

How is everyone else handling the battery? Is this just something I need to get used to if I'm going to stay with Android?

I decided yesterday to see how long it would go before needing charging. Everything on except bluetooth, and im not in 4G area. It just shut off, but lasted 36-37 hours with 5-6 calls 5minute calls and moderate browsing, on standard battery too.

My battery lasts just fine so far (all day and sometimes into the next with pretty heavy usage). I usually leave wifi turned on because I find that the phone searching for network connectivity tends to be worse than syncing data over 4G/3G. Another thing to try is restricting background data (in the data usage portion of settings). I've never felt the need to do that, but it would probably help a bit.

I'm not sure what it is, but I have never had battery struggles with any of my Android devices. Some of the keys to this might be that I only use Google's Nexus devices and I don't root, I don't install task managers, and I don't have tons of apps pulling all kinds of background data.

The battery life on the Galaxy Nexus has been on par with my prior not-as-smart phones.

I was in Vegas last week and put the battery to the test.

One day, the phone was off the charger for 12 hours and I spent about 7 hours of that walking around, taking pictures (many panoramic), checking in on Foursquare and Latitude, responding to emails, texting, posting on G+ and tracking my wanderings with an app called Noom that used GPS constantly, I even played a tower defense game during lunch (took 30 min to get our check) and by the time I got back to my hotel the battery was in the red. I was pretty happy with that. I don't get even 1/2 that with my laptop.

My typical days usage works the battery down to about 1/4 charge by the time I hit the sack.. less if I play games while watching TV. Seems reasonable to me.

I impressed that Madweezel got that much time out of the phone.
I charged mine over night and unplugged it this morning at 5am its now 9:35am pacific time and I am down to 73%.

I went ahead and ordered a second battery for it last night for it.

now i use the phone for just about everything. i use it with Touchdown for my work e-mail and the regular g-mail for my personal. I am using it to listen to music right now. I am not all that impressed with the battery life but i do like the phone and i am also an iPhone 4 convert also.

Verizon had some good prices on extra and extended batteries yesterday.

Ok, so it looks like the battery situation may be worse than I initially thought. I started with a full charge yesterday morning night, and here were my results halfway through the day.

Current Charge: 30%
Hours on Battery: 5h35m
Screen Use: 1h36m / 53%
OS / Keep Awake: 2h52m / 17%
Browser: 8%
Cell Standby: 4%
Phone Idle: 4%

Phone Settings:
Wifi: off
Bluetooth: off
GPS: off
Account Sync: on
4G data: off
Screen Timeout: 30sec
Brightness: Auto

I don’t know about everyone else, but that’s pretty much abysmal by my standards. It seems like there are two main culprits. First, something is clearly keeping my phone awake when it’s not being used, as evidenced by the “keep awake” time being double the amount of time I actually had the phone on. This may be due to a task manager that I was using. I uninstalled it when “keep awake” was around 2:15, so perhaps those numbers will be better on my next charge. I have seen lots of discussion of similar problems on clean installs of Android though, so it may not help at all.

However, the bigger problem is obviously the screen. I plan to experiment some with the brightness settings and see what kind of difference that makes today. I’ve also got an extended battery coming in the mail, which should increase the life by about 14%. I’ll update again with more results when I have them.

I see it very similar - 15 hrs is max from a full charge. I do a bit of internet use, approx. 20Mb, no more, and around 30 mins of calls over Edge (I switched to Edge to save battery life). Push email on one corporate account is always on.

Honestly I'm challenged to imagine how this phone could support 1000 minutes of calling, as declated on samsung webpage.
