Hi. I own an iPad, and I watch lots of Netflix. I have a Wii that could be used for Netflix but isn't set up.

I like to play music over 7 year old HP computer speakers that are hooked up to and iPod universal dock. I have a 19" HDTV. I have an $100 Apple Gift Card, is an Apple TV worth it for me?

If I were in your shoes, I'd probably pass. Since you already have the bases covered with the other gadgets in your life, I'd say it wouldn't be necessary. It would be a better buy if you wanted access to the other content Apple TV offers, like the movie and TV rentals.

I'd say you should at least try setting up Netflix on the Wii and see if that fulfills your needs first. The service is incredibly easy to set up, especially now that they've eliminated the need for a disc. You just have to download the Netflix app from the Wii Shop, then follow the instructions from there.

I used my Wii for netflix streaming in the bedroom and while it worked for what it is worth, the Apple TV 2nd Gen i just got in there is WAY better at browsing and watching movies from what i have experienced so far. Some have reported issues with Netflix on the Apple TV, but i have yet to have any issues with it and i have already watched several movies and browsed around. Airplay from the iPad is pretty awesome as well. I have been using the AirPlay functionality to watch my video podcasts on the TV and it works perfect. Your TV may be a little small to take advantage of the output from the Apple TV, but if the size works for you then it shouldnt be an issue. 720p is the best it will output anyway. Hope this helps and i say buy it :-)

First off, it's great to have options. I have an Xbox 360 in the living room for my 37" (1080p), and a Wii for the 26" (720p) in the bedroom. The Wii can't do HD, but it can do EDTV. With most Netflix content not being HD anyway, it works just fine.

If you have multiple TV's to use netflix with, the apple tv is a cheap option...however the Roku HD is cheaper and has more apps. But if you only have one Tv to use it with, don't replace the Wii.

Just got the Apple TV for Christmas, and I'm loving it. I tried the Wii for video on my 50" plasma, and I was surprised by how bad it looked. On your 19", it may be fine, but on a larger screen it just doesn't cut it for HD content.

The ATV is also great for getting all content (ie: not just Netflix) from my computer on to my big screen, particularly anything in iPhoto (home movies or photos). I've also been surprised by how much good content there is the podcast selections, and on YouTube.

As a Mac guy, it fits with everything I do, but if you don't have a Mac set, I'm not sure how fluidly it will settle into your system. That combined with you not having a need to put your content onto a big screen, you may like it, but you may also want to consider some of the other options (ie: a boxee hacked into a cheap pc, XBMC, etc).
