Hi Gdgt guys. I have a ton of tivo file(approx 4TB's worth). Any thoughts on how to convert these to usable unprotected files to play on my Apple TV? Thanks.

If you use a Mac, I recommend a nice little piece of freeware called iTiVo. After networking wirelessly with your TiVo, you will be able to scan, select, and download recorded TiVo content to your computer. You can choose from a variety of codecs to accomodate all of your multimedia needs. Any DRMd content in your TiVo, like movies downloaded from Amazon, won't be transferable, but pretty much anything you've recorded will be. Check it out here:

Good luck.

Look at the program kmttg:

The whole package automates the transfer of files from the Tivo to your PC and transcoding to different formats.

It uses a program called "TivoDecode" to convert the .Tivo file to an unencumbered MPG file.

You didn't specify if you are a PC or Mac user. As it's been many years since I have used a PC I will tell you my current setup is using Roxio Toast 10. (Current version is Toast 11 which I believe has the same options. - www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/default.html?gcli...). With this software there is an application called TiVo Transfer. This will allow transfers to the Mac and then allow exporting to a format for the Apple TV. I do this on a regular occasion to retain things on our media servers for playing on our Apple TV's.

The software and literature says that it will only export 640x480 resolutions. However, my exports are 852x480 and have even seen 960x540. Not sure why I get better than expected resolutions. My guess is that it is related to having Elgato's EyeTV or Turbo.264 installed as well. The Toast Player software is based on the Elgato software so maybe something is crossing over. *shrug* - I'm just happy it is giving me better than expected. (I use the EyeTV software with a EyeTV Hybrid for recording over the air HD TV programs and putting them on our media server as well. www.elgato.com/elgato/na/mainmenu/products.en.html)
