Hey i have an iPad. I am planning to buy a good smart phone. iPhone and Samsung s3 interest me. If i buy an iPhone, will it make my iPad useless?

I just wanted to know what is the benefits of having both ipad and iphone, like the icloud. I want to know more about such pluses. Or does it make sense to buy the best android device (say, Samsung S3) and have best of both the apple and android world? ;)

Hi, Manoj. I have the new iPad and an iPhone, as well as an Android phone and an Android tablet. If I were in your shoes, I would take the iPad out of the equation.

It's true that you'll be able to share many application purchases between an iPhone and your iPad, but I've found that the only application I want to share (such as Evernote) are free and available for both iOS and Android. The applications that I cannot share (such as games made specifically for the iPad), I don't want to share anyway—I bought them specifically because I appreciate the extra screen real estate of the iPad and have no desire to play the same game on a tiny screen.

At the end of the day, I use my iPhone for:
* phone calls
* directions
* Yelp (or similar)
* camera
* Pandora/Spotify in the car

I use my iPad for:
* reading
* playing games
* iPhoto
* sketching
* mind-mapping
* outlining, research, writing

As you can see, there isn't really a lot of cross-over. So, in answer to your question, while it really depends on what you do with your device, in general, no, I don't think that buying an iPhone will render your iPad useless.

I hope that helps.

I have the new iPad and the Galaxy Nexus with JB and also an iPhone 4S.

Like "bleepnik" says i pretty much follow the same lines for i use my iPad and my phones for. i have all the same apps on both my phones and they are almost interchangeable to me. now the iPad is something that i use every day and grab for all the time. i have found that i use the iPad more than i do either phone.

the phones come in handy for quick searches, texting and phone calls and some GPS. the iPad i use it for everything else.

as for which phone to pick the plus with the iPhone is that all if not most of the apps you have you will will be able to use on the phone and any media like movies and TV shows an books you will be able to use on the phone. Also the iPhone is updated once a year where android phones there is always a newer and better one around the corner.

I like the customizability of the Android OS, i like the different keyboards and skins and even the version of the OS i can install. i think the Galaxy Nexus lets make the phone more unique and custom to me and the iPhone you just can't get that type of customization.

in the end i say go to your carriers store and look at the phones. pick them up, play with them and see if you like the feel. take a picture with the cameras and play with the devices to make sure you like what you are seeing and pick the one that feel best for you.

Personally i would go Nexus again if i had tho choose again. i like the stock android and the fact that i will have the latest OS when its released to me is a Plus. with the S3 and the Samsung skin and the Samsung application like S Voice i worry that we won't see timely updates to the newest version of the Android OS. ICS has been out about a year now i believe and less than 15% of the phones have the OS. you even see new phone still being sold Gingerbread.

I have the iPhone and iPad2.If you sync the iPhone and iPad to the same account, you will be able to share most app purchases. There are also innovative apps that use both, like garageband. The screen on the iPad is much better for surfing, the iPhone is.. well a phone and easy to sync with all your present apps. Android is too fragmented and subject to malware for me to be interested, but it does have allot of the same apps, and some nice handsets. The new camera on the iPhone is fantastic, facetime on the iPhone and iPad are now compatible with the mac, no pc client that I know of.

Thank you bleepnik and falleninsea...very helpful both your answers...

So from bleepnik's answer i gather that iphone is basically used for phone call n camera. For all Apps n books he uses the ipad. Which is sensible since it has large screen. So all the apps (games) u have in iphone will not be used at all. Instead if i have an android phone, i will be able to have all d android games which r not for apple rite?? All the 'Exclusive to android' apps, basically.

And from falleninsea's comment, I think he wd be using the nexus more than his iphone. Plus his point on customization of android is absolutely correct. So it makes sense to buy a phone wid good camera n better customization in terms of texting, widgets, home page, etc. So buying a galaxy nexus wd be a far better option than an iphone dont u guys think? since if i have an iphone i will only be using only for calling/photo capture.

Correct me guys if i m wrong.
