Headphones connection only works with Right Ear

This is a pretty weird issue. Every set of headphones I plug into my iPod only works with the right ear. When I plug the same headphones into my mac, or anything else, for that matter, both sides work perfectly. If I wiggle the headphones while they're in the ipod, sometimes the left works for a few seconds. Anyone else have this problem?

Its probably one of the prongs inside the 3.5mm slot have been pushed out of the way and no longer contact the the headphone's 3.5mm male end. Might be able to get it in there with, say, a paper clip, to push it back to where it will contact the male end again. Look in it carefully (thinking flashlight and magnifying glass here) to see if my assumption is correct. Sometimes it does not take much to push it out of the first place. Good luck.

If your warranty is still in effect, call Apple and they will replace it. If not, take a glasses screwdriver and scrape the dirt and grime off the contacts. This fixed mine, but when I insert headphones they do not 'click' as well as before.

Hope this helps!

P.S. I also tried the q-tip and alcohol, but mine must have been far too dirty, because that had no effect.

This happened to me too. But I think there may be different revisions of the 2ng gen touch. The earphone jack was solid metal, if you looked inside if it you saw just metal and the little metal nodes. However, after I got my replacement from apple (it was still under warranty) I noticed that the headphone jack has a plastic black sleeve in the barrel! Maybe the metalic model wears out fast or is faulty? My new iPhone has the black sleeve too.
