Question about
hdmi to a/v problems
I have been using my a/v plugins the whole time i've had it, then when we got an hd tv we wanted to try out the hdmi cable. It worked after a bit of tinkering with the tv but now when i try to play it with just the a/v plugins the screen is black. Any help?
you can usually reset the audio/video connection by holding down the power button for several seconds. it should beep and reboot and the video will come back and ask what connection you want to use and what resolution (720p, 1080p, 1080i, 480i/p). Why do you want to use something other than HDMI though? it should offer you the best picture...

agree with coologuy1957
and FYI, the PS3 can not give both a/v plug ins and HDMI at the same time, it would be pointless, and it is a matter of time (few years maybe) till they drop the whole a/v plugin features

I'm pretty sure you can use HDMI for video and the a/v cable for audio, though I don't know why you would want to. I know you can have HDMI for the TV video and audio and optical fiber for the surround sound. HDMI is the only way to have digital 1080p video on the PS3 and also the only way to get the high fidelity Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD soundtracks from sources such as games and blu-rays.
Component cables are limited to 1080i/720p/480p and composite (red/white/yellow) cables are limited to 480i...
