Question about
Has anyone had any problems with the network part of this device along with Windows 7? The only way I got this to work was with TVersity.
I tried using a switch, Airport Extreme, and an old WRT54G just for fun and still couldn't access my network shares.

Have you updated to the latest firmware. I originally had a problem with it connecting then losing the network shares but haven't had a problem since updating. (Although this was on XP not windows 7)

When first setting up this device, I was unable to connect to my Windows 7 machine as well. The issue turned out to be a permission setting on the shared folder. After setting correct permissions, connecting to my Drobo via the Windows 7 machine has been flawless. My WD Live Plus and Windows machine are connected to a gigabit switch via wired ethernet.

Might also be a software conflict on your host machine. I saw on the WD forums that Windows Live 2011 changes some sharing components that make Windows 7 inaccessible to WDTV Live. Now that Windows Live 2011 is being pushed via Microsoft Update, its possible that conflict might arise in your system without your direct intervention.
From what I can tell on the forums if this is your issue, uninstalling Windows Live 2011 will not resolve the issue, once those core sharing components are undated, the uninstaller will not revert them to clean Windows 7.
A similar thing happened to me with my Popcorn Hour. Apple changed its iTunes Sharing in either iTunes 8 or iTunes 9 the change made Sybas' myiHome software incapable of streaming to my Popcorn Hour.
Keep in mind if you can access internet streaming data or even do a firmware update from your WD TV Live Plus, then the problem is not hardware or network related. If it can reach the cloud, then its not the network or any hardware that sits on your network.
However funkyful's point is valid. For a WD TV to have sharing privileges you need to give the user group 'Everyone" sharing rights to your network shares you want accessible. By default I think Windows 7 only allow sharing within your Homegroup, which is not the same thing as "Everyone". I would check that first.
Secondly, if possible, I would try sharing files from a clean Windows 7 install (no addon, third party apps, or updates). Perhaps carve out a new partition on your machine if you only have 1 computer to test, an emulated Windows 7 environment, or a spare computer you can afford to wipe clean and reinstall windows 7 from.
