Yes, works very well. You have to make sure your iPod is supported. Rockbox only runs on the 1st & 2nd Gen nanos.
I have a first gen with only 1GB. Not much use as a music/video device so Rockbox makes it a nice text/password/game viewer. Not bad for an iPod I bought from a thrift store for $10 bucks.
