Harmony 880 wont charge.

When I first purchased the Logitech Harmony 880 remote I was thrilled with how well it controlled all of my electronics. But, from the start there was one fatal flaw - the remote simply will not charge. When I set the remote on the charging station, nothing. I have to wobble it around before it starts to charge. And just seconds after it beeps and begins to charge, it beeps again and the charging stops. I have tried everything! The remote simply cannot make correct contact with the charging station. Any ideas on what I can do? I have pretty much had it with the remote, but I paid way too much to just throw it away. I should have taken it back the first time I needed to charge the device.

For mine it seemed that the battery was loose in it's compartment. I simply stuck a small piece of cardboard in there with it, to hold it more tightly in place and viola. Never had a problem since. I put the remote on it's charger and it charges without a problem.

As others have said, my Harmony 880 stopped charging. Cleaning the contacts didn't work. Upon inspection I could see black underneath where the gold plated contacts had worn away.

A quick trip to Home Depot, a soldering iron and some electrical solder, a steady hand and it was back up and charging.

Just put a little dab of solder on each contact, including both the base and the remote. In under five minutes you'll be back up and running... er charging.

Same thing happens to mine. What I do is whenever I'm charging, I put something, say a CD or DVD case on top of the remote, to "push" it downwards so that the charging contact points touches the ones on the charging station. Not the best solution but it works, and my Harmony is too old for any warranty exchange, I think.

I put a dab of solder of each contact so it goes deeper into the docking station.

I have been setting object on top of the remote for about a year and it only works half of the time. It is really exhausting trying to get a full charge. Solder sounds like a great idea - but for some reason I still worry about breaking the remote. Is there any particular kind of solder that works better than others?

Try taking some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and clean the contacts on both the base and the remote.

I had the same thing happen, and Logitech has replaced two of my base stations, so you may just try opening a web ticket with them as well, but the above tip has helped as well.

The contacts just get crapped up easily--some q-tips and rubbing alcohol and it'll be charging like new.

The same thing happened to me after I'd had the remote for about a year. I called Logitech, and it seems to be a known issue. They sent me a new remote and I had it in a few days.

Several months later it started happening again. I called Logitech again, and once again they shipped a new remote. I'm now on my third remote, and haven't had any problems (yet).

I use a pencil eraser to clean both the base and the remote contacts about every two weeks. You can tell if it is charging when the little demo runs. If you see your normal menu, it is not charging, and you need to fiddle with it, possibly adding weight to the remote, or take thirty seconds to do the eraser thing.

I find it comforting that my big problems in life are as simple as my remote control is difficult to recharge

Thanks for the help everyone. I've also been experiencing this problem. I have been using a weight on the remote method, but I'm going to try to clean the contacts and see if that helps.

My favorite fix for this problem - I did exactly the same thing when my Harmony 880 was maybe three months old. Charged perfectly ever since.

Hockey puck on top works great.

I had this problem from day 1. I just put a weight on top of the remote. I only need to charge it about once a week anyway. (I have a heavy-duty padlock that sits perfectly on the screen.)
