Google Apps email on Windows 8

I have a Google Apps domain account email address, and it won't connect using Windows 8. I'm using an application-specific password for my two-factor authentication, and nothing.

I've seen other people online with this issue, too. I've tried using it as a new Google account, and as a new Exchange account.

I have a Goog apps domain email account (free version) too with two factor authentication set up. And the built-in Mail app works without a hitch. The steps I followed were to go in to settings > Add an account > Google. And then enter my full email address with the application specific password. The only thing, if any, that I might have done differently from you is to check the box that said "Include your Google contacts and calendars".

This worked fine for me in the previous preview versions and the current production version. Not sure if I was much help...

I know it's a pain, but have you tried manually adding the IMAP and SMTP server information?

I found Win 8 beautiful and really fast. I also found myself plagued with the same kind of problems you mention. I've gone back to Win 7 simply because everything works. For some reason yesterday all my Metro apps quit working and would only work once reinstalled. That was the final straw. Good Luck.

So here is an article actually explaining whats happening with IMAP2 and why we are having sync issues. A good read, but waiting on Microsoft for an answer (As Always.) It hasn't been verified however, but something to think about.

Google Apps offers Exchange like policy features, and initially I had problems accessing mail, contacts and calendar on Windows 8 until I went back into the settings and noted that I had to allow the Google Apps Domain to control my configuration... then bingo it all worked.
