It is time for me to say goodbye to all my Apple ecosystem products I own. I have been using it with ATVFlash for awhile with Boxee/XBMC. Unfortunately, it is very underpowered but has hard drive storage and USB unlike the new Apple TV. Honestly, the new black Apple TV sucks it is 720p, streams like Roku, will give you Netflix, but all HD movie rentals and TV episodes are $5 for streaming. Apple sucks and has this new next generation crapware IOS 4.1 and the new iTunes 10 is not an improvement at all. I own an Iphone 4 and Classic Video Ipod and they also suck. Steve Jobs is very arrogant on getting things fixed and lets all start a movement to move to either Boxee Box by Dlink or use the Zune HD and the Zune Marketplace on your Xbox 360 to download and stream movies and TV shows in 1080p. This November the Windows Phone 7 comes out and will revolutionize the way you use your Smartphone. Google is also working with Sony on its Google TV product which will be integrated with TVs.

I don't really need it although it would look nicer next to me TV than the current tv. I can stream Netflix from my Wii/PS3 but I would get it in a heartbeat if they added support for Amazon videos. I'm actually thinking of getting a Roku HD.

When it's jail broken and I can use more streaming options, I will buy one.

I think for the time being the 1st gen Apple TV will stay on my main TV. My wife likes having the Photos on the big screen, and she loves to browse the online music store to make purchases on the Apple Tv from the sofa. I don't think I will get a new apple tv just yet (I went the ROKU route instead). I like having all my Photos, and most of my music stored on my Apple TV. The most important thing is that my wife can use the thing without calling me at work to ask "How do I..."

I have to question just how under powered the Original Apple TV is? I keep hearing this, but have to wonder if someone came up with a way to load it with another OS, then could this new OS be tweaked so that it runs leaner on the "under powered" hardware?

I agree the device may be underpowered and sluggish to run the current software/OS loaded on it, but trim that down and free up some hardware resources, and we might have something that works well. I guess I can keep googleing for Apple TV hacks/mod's, and see what surfaces.
