Question about
ArmpitOfDeath

For a den of Appleholics I'm surprised at the black hole the Pro discussions are. But here goes again. Maybe it's a den of iOSMacbookholics. Hmmm.

What are more viable options than the 5870 for use on the '10 Pro's? I'm looking for a little (well, a lot to be honest) more kick than the ATI's are able to deliver (in OS X of course). I'm aware of the Quadro 4000, but what I don't know is how much more (if any) performance it brings to the table, especially given the relatively non-optimised nature of previous NVidia drivers.

Any opinions? Other suggestions? Thanks

Supposedly, the latest OS X 10.6 releases have included drivers that support the Radeon 6x00 series. I haven't seen any definitive tests as of yet though. But if so, that means you could potentially throw in something like a Radeon 6970 (or even a Radeon 6990 -- DROOL) for some increased power. Are you looking to move away from ATI / AMD all together though and possibly go nVidia?

That said, you mention Quadro -- so I take it you're looking for significantly more power than you can get from the simple gaming graphics cards.
