Firmware upgrade

Anyone know if there's been a firmware upgrade released for this in the past 6 months? I've been trying to check Panasonic's website, and I know a firmware has recently been released for many of their products, but it doesn't seem to apply to the FZ28. I keep hoping they release an update that'll fix the wonky focus logic.

Otherwise, this is (in my opinion) a solid camera. My wife and I have used it extensively, and even dropped it a couple of times, and it still takes what I think are pretty good pics.

One thing to be aware of is the rumor floating around the 'net that Panasonic is adding code to their new camera firmware updates to disable the use of third party batteries. So, if you have a generic second battery for your camera, you might give extra thought to upgrading if a firmware is released.

I just got this camera for father's day and I think it takes some pretty great pictures once you get used to the controls. Good times.

I had a look round the nest for a new firmware a for it a couple of weeks ago, and there isnt one. I found a forum with people commenting on it, and the slow focus. They had emailed panasonic who replied and said that they werent aware that is is an issue and wiht a 18x zoom lens the focus will be a bit slow.

I personally have never had a problem with it.

As celticchrys said, panasonic are updating the firmware of several cameras to exclude 3rd party batteries, so be careful before you updte if a new firmware does come out.

I've heard about the anti-battery code Panasonic is inserting, but I'd be willing to deal with it for better focus response times. You're right, it's not terrible, but I've played around a bit with a friend's Canon (S10 I think), which is their 20x optical zoom equivalent to the Panasonic, and the responsiveness of the zoom and focus is literally about 40% faster. The difference is striking when you use one and then the other.

Still, I love the Panasonic. Takes great pics once you've figured it out, and the HD video is pretty good.

One of the major improvements on the replacement model FZ35 is supposed to be focus speed. Also, my understanding is that the batteries used in these models don't have chips in them which would make it very difficult to block non-oem. But long and short of it is the camera is EOL, so I wouldn't expect any firmware updates at this point anyway.

I love the FZ28 which takes clear pictures even though I shake. However the image stabilization in movie mode is very poor. I am hoping that an update would fix this. Video I take with the Canon Elf does a much better job of reducing the shaking.
