Extended battery?

Any word on a beefier battery for the myTouch? I've been playing with my new phone for the last 2 days and the battery dies about half way through the day (a huge difference from the 3 days I had on my Nokia E71).

There is a battery extender you can get for it already. You'll see it in the little booklets that came with the phone. Also, try turning on wifi while you're home. It gets better battery life than pulling the data using 3G.

yea, with the gps and wifi and 3G going thruout the day, the battery drains very quickly... luckily with it being a standard usb port finding power is relatively easy. (ex: My Garmin Nuvi uses same usb port in car, plug usb cable into nearby computer to power, etc.)

Since this is basically the magic, i believe there are bigger batteries that don't need a bigger cover.

I just checked the insert that came with it. Do you mean this monstrosity? phandroid.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/mytouch-b...

I think I would take a bulky battery that causes me to get a new cover over this ugly thing....

I think there are better options then that, that is hideous. I believe there are bigger capacity batteries that don't require a new back cover.

Hey... doesn't myTouch 3G uses the same battery as the 'normal' Magic?

I've experiences similar times on my new HTC Hero. Spending some time tweaking can ease the issue quite a lot, here is summary of my findings (for Hero, many of these apply generically to Android), feel free to complement

- Turn off the “Always-on” mobile data connection.
- Disable Wireless network usage for positioning purposes
- Turn off “Background data” usage (but not if you use Google services!)
- Always keep Wi-Fi off when not in use – automate this with Y5 Battery Saver app
- Always keep Bluetooth off when not in use
- Avoid usage of push or very frequent email polling – configure it to sync every 15 or more minutes
- Turn off automatic Weather updates (and other data polling widgets)
- Set a reasonable update frequency for Twitter, Flicker and Facebook
- Get a fast mobile network connection to minimize data connection uptime

For more details on these you can have a look at my more detailed description at

This site has 1500 mAh, 2600 mAh and 3650 mAh the two latter ones require extended battery covers. The 1500 doesn't and adds about 15% to the battery life, so maybe a few extra hours. From what i read they are a trusted site but i would do your own research first. And for $30 for an extra battery isn't horrible.

haha yep that is what i was referring to. it sure is ugly. but it exists. at least they thought of it. but its not in the tmo online store that i could find. just give it time and new stuff (higher capacity internal batteries) will hopefully be out, as pointed out below.

what do you mean by "- Get a fast mobile network connection to minimize data connection uptime?" How can you just will a faster connection into existence? Are you saying "switch to a better carrier?"

I would imagine he means wifi instead of regular data or 3G. I think wifi and edge burn about the same battery, with wifi maybe burning less. 3G is the worst battery killer out there.
