Every time I logon to my OS X Snow Leopard machine, Finder opens up windows for all my network shares. How do I stop it from doing so?

I have a OS X machine that has mapped network connections to my Windows Home Server. When I logon to the desktop from a reboot, Finder will open all those network connections as a separate window (eg 8 network connections, 8 open windows). I want the network connections as shortcuts on my desktop, but not have the open windows.

If I understand your problem correctly, it should be able to be remedied through "Login Items" under "Users and Groups" in System Preferences. You should see "Network Folder" or something like that listed. Check the box next to it to hide it, or use the - to remove it completely.

Let me know if this helps!

I placed a check next to each of the network folders and rebooted. When I logged on, each of the folders still opened up. If I clik on the "-" to remove it, will that also remove the shortcut of the folder on the desktop?
