Eris moving from 1.5 to 2.0/1 definite?

First, is the Eris definitely getting an update? I know every cell phone blog has been saying that it is, but do you think it will definitely be happening?

Second, is there any possibility the bump to 2.0/1 might ruin the phones overall performance since it has lesser specs than the Droid/Nexus One?

HTC has confirmed that they will be upgrading to 2.0/1 for the Hero in the UK and the Hero on Sprint here in the US. I would think it'd be safe to assume that if both Hero's get it, then the Eris would too, as they are all extremely similar in design, not to mention practically identical in OS and features.

As for the performance, I think I read that the 2.+ OS uses the phone's resources better and more efficiently. So while there are more features to use more resources, it may use them better so theoretically you'd see similar performance.

I want the ability to get 2.1 and turn off the Sense UI, it's nice and pretty, but the Nexus One's interface is pretty nice I think too, I like it more actually. I'd take 5 pages rather than 7.

Thanks for the info. I'd really like to have 2.0/1 run well on the Eris because I really like the phone a lot and am happy I took it over the Droid. Hopefully there will be some preliminary reports of how it runs before I choose to nab so I know if it's worth it or not.

From what I understand an update that'll allow Google Maps turn-by-turn feature in Q1. Either this is 1.6 or 2.0, we don't know, it's dependent on HTC/Verizon and the Sense UI.

That link has info in it about HTC and the Eris getting 2.1. Near the bottom under "Other Considerations" in that link.

"Neither Motorola nor HTC has announced an exact date for when specific Android handsets will receive the 2.1 upgrade. Motorola has, however, stated that all of its Android devices will be updated. HTC has mentioned the Droid Eris as an upgrade certainty and has suggested certain other models will also be included."

Thanks for the info everyone. When I was deciding between the Moto Droid and the Eris, I looked into this and saw a ton of stuff saying "yeah it's coming in 2010" but never saw anything beyond the initial postings.

This is going to make me very excited and I hope you were joematt about it using the resources better because I am really loving this phone.
