Question about
Engaging the N Network Mode
It didn't occur to me until recently, that the WRT160N that I had wasn't transmitting in the N mode by default. I have tried switching to the N mode, and my laptop (which is wireless N compatible) simply wouldn't connect. I have tried a number of possible configuration options on the router, including changing the channels and security mode settings. Has anyone else encountered this problem, and how did you get past it?

I have mine set to Mixed mode. I have three wifi routers in the house, all set as access points - (yes, I am a bit crazy, but basically I have a wired routers with WiFi routers acting as access points on all three floors of the house, one on the north side, one in the middle, and one on the south side - two Airports and the 160N ) - and my Macbook is connected to the 160N right now, in 802.11n mode.

Do you have other laptops or devices that are only B/G compatible? My understanding is that since this is not a simultaneous dual band router, it will connect you with whatever the lowest common denominator is on the network (EVEN if you are set to Mixed broadcast). My laptop is N compatible and I use this router, but since my roommates have only G compatible laptops, then I only get a G signal.
I could be wrong though.

Rankinaaron, I use two N mode laptops and a desktop computer with the router, and they both cycle down to G mode. The router not being simultaneous dual band router truly is disappointing. I've been searching for some firmware upgrades to overcome the problem... but with no luck though
