Seriously? This thing can't do surround sound? How is that even possible?
Did the recent update to the Google part of the device come with updates to the Sony side? In other words, has it caught up to 1999 yet?
Question about
Does the Sony Google TV still not support 5.1?
Sorry to reply to my own question, but I had to add here. It also has pass-through. So I simply pass the HDMI audio through to my receiver, which handles it properly. I'll hook up an optical cable to it eventually, so sources from the device its self get handled properly if they're a certain type of surround, but for now I'm perfectly happy with this thing. I really like it, and I can't see what people are complaining about...

It does support 5.1 through DTS and Dolby. It also has a Digital Audio Optical output. I tried it and it works.
