The most recent versions of Calibre (as of 0.8.3, I believe) have support for the new Nook. I've loaded books on mine from Calibre (running 0.8.4) and it works great.

Yes. Books bought from B&N are ePub, but you can side load PDFs too.

Calibre is the program to have when side loading it even converts to preferred formate for the Nook.
