Question about
Does the Airport support QoS?
I know the router has the typical "Apple bumpers" to keep us from bruising our knees and so doesn't expose many advanced features, but does the router understand and prioritize QoS tagged packets? Or, does it completely ignore priority tags?

Short answer, from what I can tell, no, it doesn't. See specs: www.apple.com/airportextreme/specs.html and this post: store.apple.com/us/question/answers/product/MC340L...
Long answer: Apple's AirPort Extreme line of products have always struck me as especially overpriced and under-featured compared to the rest of the market. And after having router after router that was weak and crashy, I've gone back in the direction of DD-WRT (www.dd-wrt.com/site/index ), using it on a D-Link DIR-825 (gdgt.com/d-link/dir-825/ ) with great effect. It may not be as insanely easy, but you will never want for a feature, that is for sure.

I doubt it. It doesn't even have an SPI firewall - as they say, NAT's All, Folks - so QoS seems to be wishful thinking.

I can confirm, the Airport Extreme does not have QoS packet tagging. At home, I use it strictly for Wireless. I use a separate D-link router for my wired network devices, which gives me a wider set of features, including QoS, not to mention customization of features.
