Question about
crimsonfenix

Does it support UPNP?

The one piece of official information I can't find about the Roku box is whether or not it supports UPNP media servers. Specifically, I am wondering if I can stream video/audio from my Mediatomb server or my laptop running Windows 7. Anyone have any success in that department?

Short answer is no, it does not. It only handles web-based streaming media formats, you'd have to set up a web server on your local media server to stream in a format that is supported.

Sadly no. This is just for streaming content from various web based sources.

That's really too bad. It seems like UPNP is the one killer feature missing from all of these set top boxes. Looks like I'll be leaving my PS3 in the living room for a little while longer. Thanks for the heads up, guys.

You can connect a USB hard drive to the Roku's USB port and use the USB Media Player Channel to play movie, picture, and music files on the drive. But there is no uPNP to support media servers, like those available on some Linksys access points.
