Question about

Does anyone know if the Mini DisplayPort on these (the aluminum unibody MacBook, not the current Pro model) can transfer audio?

It would be nice to run just the single cable (Mini DisplayPort to HDMI) for both audio and video to a television.

The Mini DisplayPort on the unibody MacBooks can't do audio directly to HDMI, but if you get a Toslink adapter you can then plug that into your Mac and the HDMI into it and you're good to go. Here's the one I've used: www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&am...

No. Audio through the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI is not supported prior to the 2010 Macbook Pro models.
