Does anyone know if GPS in the Galaxy S series is still useless?
Depends on what version of the Galaxy S you have. Also some people (myself included) have no issues with the GPS. I've also read that the GPS is better for those that have flashed Froyo ROMs.

I've got the US Cellular version and it works well for me.

I have the i9000b version and with the 2.1 OS really sucks... buy with 2.2 (froyo) the GPS is extremely fast.

I have an i9000 with 2.2 right from the carrier, and my gps works perfectly.

On the verizon fascinate, google nav still has issues however it does work on just about every other gps app
