Question about
Does anyone have recommendations for some speakers for a dorm room? I want them to work out of the box, with no receiver or other components needed. Around $100
Stick to my budget but hit hard with decent sound

My answer would have to the Acoustic Energy Aego M's, though I'm not if you can get hold of them easily given they are British made.
Check them out on my profile; I have them paired up with my Squeezebox. They cost me about £90 and are awesome. So small but the quality and room filling volume is amazing, which is probably why the tiny little sat's weigh about as much as the sub!
I hope they are an available in the US or you can get hold of a pair, but beware, they have the potential to seriously piss off your neighbours if you're not careful!!

For a Dorm room?
Definitely the Jawbone Jambox. That tiny thing is powerful.
Costs around $120, and it's worth it. Works via bluetooth so there's no question of a compatibility issue.
