Does anyone have and recommend the 18-200mm lens?

I think the lens may require a flash extender to use with the flash, but I'm not sure Sony sells it anymore. They seem to be discouraging use of the lens with the NEX body, but the ability to have the range of lengths appeals to me.

Any 18-200mm lens is going to be quite large and contain a lot of glass, which will make it quite heavy. The NEX body is quite small. A sony 18-200mm might mount but I cannot image it would be good for the body, especially the plastic NEX-3.

Another thing to think about is any super-zoom i.e. 18-150mm+ will not give you great photo quality. Granted it may be quite versatile your image quality will not be as good from a DSLR standpoint.

Try Sony's 18-55mm for the NEX, if you want longer focal lengths you need to upgrade to a compact DSLR like Canon's Rebel T3 or Nikon's D3100.
