Does an amplifier help?
I found out the hard way that these don't block out any outside noise. Part of the problem seems to be how low the volume is. So will a cheap headphone amplifier help at all?

Well, common sense would indicate that it's just going to make you deaf faster since you can only listen at a certain range of safe volumes.
