I believe your router is not enough. You need at least one Sonos device connected via ethernet. That then can connect to other Sonos devices wirelessly. They use the same frequency, but a proprietary protocol.

I have an S5 and bought it specifically so that I wouldn't need a bridge. As long as you plug an ethernet cable into the S5 from your router, it can work standalone and act as a bridge for other Sonos devices. As deltasigma noted - you cannot use it wirelessly to the router.
I have subsequently added a Zoneplayer 120 which works nicely together with the S5 acting as the master, but again, the S5 must be hardwired.
