Did you have problems with your Kindle Fire not charging or turning on?

Me too. Last night after about a week with my fire, I found it would no longer turn on -- and when plugged into AC power or USB port on my PC, the charging light wouldnt' come on.

I left it overnight and charging all morning. Then I found this thread -- www.amazon.com/forum/kindle%20customer%20service%2...

It appears others are having this problem as well.

The good news is the solution suggested above worked for me. That is:
  • Hold down the power button for ~30 seconds
  • Release and press the power button again

The charging light will light up and then it will do a reboot (all data is preserved).

Anyone have any idea why it freezes up like this? This was the first time it happened for me...

It has happened to both our Fires and it definitely and internal power issue. All I did was call Kindle Support, explain the problem and they are sending us a replacement. There is no better customer service than Kindle's!!! Here's their number if you are having any problems: 866.216.1072, before calling you may want to try troubleshooting so you can say that you already did this: try a different charger (that didn't fix our problem), and then reboot (that didn't fix our problem). Called and explained the problem, we had already done the trouble shooting, so they are sending a replacement in 2 days.

I had the same issue and freaked out. It was fully charged. I just put it aside for a few minutes and when I picked it up again it would not turn on. After several attempts to hold down the power button I gave up trying thinking it was bricked and that I would need to get a replacement. My friend then picked it up and tapped the power button just once and it turned on instantly. Its been working perfectly since.

So it's nice this is a rare event... Since I posted the problem, it's happened a second time to me - but the same workaround fixed it.

Thanks for posting this, I've only had it happen once. But another friend also had it happen with theirs within a few days of purchase.

This is NOT a 'rare event' - even the amazon blogs are full of an increasing number of charging complaints. Apparently there is a bad micro usb socket behind the mess. I had the issue early on and contacted TS and got the hard reset solution mentioned here. That only postponed the problem until the unit was out of warranty.
It is sad that such a dandy little system can be rendenered useless by a minor failure point. I am pre-ordering my Google Nexus. Hopefully their same-priced product is more reliable.

Thank you so much for this help! I took it to Best Buy where it was bought, and the guy said he needed to look at the charger itself. I had tried other chargers, but to no avail. I tried your remedy, and it worked! Now my daughter can use her Kindle once more. If this problem persists too many times more, I will be contacting Kindle suppport myself. Once again, thank you!
