Continous OSX freezing during general use

My AIR usually locks up when I am doing something very important. it just freezes, the whole screen. The OS locks up, can't move the mouse, I always have to do a hard reset.

My last resort will be to wipe it and reinstall OSX. anyone else having these issues?

A "hard" lockup like that is a sign of a hardware issue. I'd recommend you call AppleCare or bring it to an Apple Genius at an Apple Store if it's still under warranty. There's a good chance that an OS re-install will not resolve your issue. Bad RAM or a malfunctioning/overheating CPU could be the culprit.
