Connect Airport Express to existing wireless network?

I am presently using XP and a Linksys Wireless Router. I do not want to disconnect the Linksys router and use the Airport Express for it's Airtunes capabilities only - I have an ITouch wihich has the ITunes remote function.
My stereo is in another room and I wanted to know if I can connect to my wireless network (using WEP Encryption) I have 'general' knowledge of computers. Also, does the Express need to be connect via ethernet during initial set up?

Thank you
Jason

When you first configure an Airport Express with the Airport Admin Utility there is an option to have it join an existing network as a wireless client. Just be connected to your current network already when you do this.

When I configured my Airport Express I had to use an Ethernet connection, but the current Apple docs don't mention it (maybe I have an old model?) support.apple.com/kb/HT1731

I have the exact set up that you want. Connect the Express via Ethernet for initial setup.

By chance, I did exactly this last night. I have an existing Wireless network using a linksys router. I plugged the airport into a power socket. Fired up airport admin. Joined the airport's network and configured it to join the exisiting linksys network. worked like a charm.. I can now access the attached speakers from iTunes.

*didn't need to use ethernet at all. during configuration it let me select the wireless network I wanted the Airport to join.

Regardless of whether some people had luck without patching in via ethernet, I ALWAYS use an ethernet cable when setting up an AirPort. It eliminates a point of failure since you would otherwise be effing with the wireless settings on the AirPort while connected to it through wireless...

Hello again,

Well, it looked to hook up ok, however I am getting constant wireless network signal loss on my computer only. My wife's laptop is working off the same network and both ITunes Remote and her internet, etc work fine (she's on Vista)
I looked at her network settings and it reads as open (mine read as 'shared' and it didn't work at all ) I changed mine to 'open' and it's on and off now
I used my laptop to set all this up. My wife's firewall is the same as mine, we both use Shaw Protection. Obviously the router is the same as well, so it can't be those settings? Any ideas would be appreciated
Thank you all for your help....I'm almost there. : )

Sorry folks, I believe I figured it out. I changed my Network Authentication to 'open' however, under the 'Authentication Tab' I clicked OFF "Enable IEEE authentication for this network"

It SEEMS to be working just fine now. Thank you all again for your help. All the best.
