I love my PS3 and everything it does. I love the game selection, playing blu rays, netflix, storing pics and videos, etc. I don't want to buy an Xbox 360 though my friends that play CoD all have Xboxes and don't play on PS3. I play CoD often, but not everynight. When I play I really think I could improve my aiming ability with changing to an Xbox controller.
I used to play a lot of Halo in college a few years ago and I really liked the controller with the offset thumb sticks. I know that I can buy a XCM and an Xbox controller to play CoD, but it's a big investment. Like it could be north of $100, in which case for about $150-$200 I could buy an Xbox system and CoD game and play that with my friends online.
Anyone have experience modding an Xbox controller to work with PS3? Anybody buy the crossover tool that allows this without having to mod the controller? If I could do this for $50 I think it could be worth it to improve my aiming and make the game more fun.
As a side note, I really wish that there could be cross talk between the 2 systems the way that there's cross talk in smartphone games between iOS and Android. Anyone see that happening within the next 5 years?

This guide will teach you how to make a "PS360 controller" - www.engadget.com/2007/05/01/how-to-make-a-ps360-co...
On the other hand, one of my best friends uses this Cross Battle Adapter that allows him to plug in a 360 controller into his PS3. It works like a charm. www.gamesuave.com/products/Playstation-3-XCM-Cross...

But, like you said, it will require a significant investment either way you go. Amazon has a 360 controller for $29 -http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wired-Controller-Black/dp/B003.... The XCM is $60, so you should get out for less than 100 bucks.

Hey there, I'm in the same boat as you and love playing on my PS3 and while I can play with the controller (hell I grew up with the PS and PS2), the 360 controller feels so much better.
1. Cross Adapter
+ Can use your favorite controller on both systems
- Expensive
2. Mod an existing 360 controller into a PS3 controller.
+ If you have existing controllers (say a broken 360 but the shell casing is good), don't have to buy anything new (as long as you do it right)
- Requires time and tools you might not have
- Can be just as expensive as Cross Adapter. If you have to buy a PS3 controller and 360 controller todo this then you just spent about $100, and your only going to get a PS3 controller out of it (the ps3 controller shell is to small to fit the 360 controller circuit board).
3. Buy a 3rd party controller
+ Affordable! Price ranges, but most are even cheaper then basic PS3 controllers!
+ Can be even better then the basic controller since they take the initial design and try and improve it
- Can be worst, keyword above "TRY", they might fail. Blindly buying a 3rd party controller and not looking up reviews = your own damn fault
I'm planing on buying the HF-2 as all the reviews I've read have given it a good review. Some minor things about the HF-2 are, no USB recharge packs (batteries only) and some have said the control sticks take a bit more force down for the L3 and R3 to work. And its $50.
