Changed Batteries and Mouse Went Wonky!

I ran this mouse on windows XP and Mac OSX with no issues until the batteries went dead and I replaced them. Now 6 second delayed intermittent jerky movement, if at all, and right clink brings up contextual menu also with a very very long delay. I assumed I had to re-sync this unit so I found the suggested method on Microsoft only to discover that there are no buttons anywhere on the transceiver or the mouse as described by the support doc.

ANY CLUES ?? would be greatly appreciated.
