Question about
Captivate turns off at seemingly random intervals. I've only had it for around a month, but it's really starting to bother me during daily use.
It seems independent of charge level, connections and applications, from what I've seen.
I've seen this issue on other sites as well, but have yet to find a way to fix it or any indication of it getting fixed. Does anyone know of a way to address this problem?

I have this issue as well - it has only happened when the phone is not charging and stopped happening when I installed AppBrain and updated all my apps although that isn't proof of anything.

Man, as much as I want to like Samsung, it seems like EVERY model of android phone they put out has some major software or hardware error that is just ridiculous. Even though they do some of the best hardware designs, I just can't trust them anymore to do any reasonable level of Quality Assurance. Sorry you are having an issue... they got me with the Moment, so I feel your pain. :(

I read that this was some bug to do with GPS being enabled when you charge/disconnect your phone. I only had this happen maybe twice, and have made it a habit to disable GPS when I don't need it, and it hasn't been an issue since (but then maybe it wouldn't have been anyways).

Well, I went and exchanged the previous one I had a few days ago for a new one. Going through the process of readjusting and re-installing everything slowly. Thankfully no problems have surfaced since then, however. Maybe they fixed it on new handsets?

My wife and I both have Captivates; we both had the issue. I could never pinpoint exactly when the phone would shut down, but I can say that it is a software issue...Guessing Samsung's drivers. I rooted the phone and installed Cyanogen, and now the issue is resolved.
The other solution: Captivate Keep Alive. The app does stop the phone from shutting down, but it drains the battery a good amount.
